Make a design sketch of your oriental lamp shade. In view of the material you could gather, draw a design of your lamp. This will help you figure out the dimensions of the lamp and the measurements of the materials you will use. Cut a piece of interlining or cheesecloth to provide support to the walls of the lamp. This support has two purposes: to keep the pieces you have chosen as your light walls and diffuse light from the bulb inside the lamp.

Attach the walls to interlining with white glue. After the white glue dries, attach the walls to the bamboo frames with hot glue or construction adhesive. Attach an x-brace to the corners of the frame. This will help stabilize the lamp and becomes the anchor point for the suspension. Add decorative trim as split bamboo pieces. Make another one, so you have a few hanging lamps.
